Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Or a pile Azure on a fess Gules a cable fesswise Or.  Attached below the shield a Gold scroll inscribed SUPPORT AND ON TIME in Black letters.

Symbolism
The pile, a symbol of support, alludes to the varied aspects in the Support Battalion and the cable symbolizes the linking together of these services in the accomplishment of their mission.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 53d Support Battalion on 22 December 1965.  It was reassigned to the current 53d Support Battalion on 8 May 1969.
